IN TOUCH WITH GOD    by Edward Heppenstall

Good Success NOVEMBER 22

THE LOVE YOUTH NEED MOST

May you be strong to grasp . . . what is the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ. Eph. 3:19, N.E.B.

This time is called the age of Aquarius. Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the Zodiac, the water carrier, unstable, unpredictable, eccentric. Youth born under this sign are said to advocate a philosophy of free love, an uninhibited life-style. Emancipation is the key word. It is almost unbelievable that so many voting people should choose a life that rejects material things.

The religion youth need is a religion of love, a love that can be trusted. The religion of God's love is not merely a hunger that needs to be filled, but a fullness that spills over and gives away the best and the highest. It means pouring oneself out to others regardless of what others do to you. Then nothing people say to you can hurt you.

Genuine Christian love will not let you continue through life on the fringe of friendship and fellowship. It will not play emotional tricks on people. It will not victimize people emotionally or physically. It will not allow you to overlay your heart and mind with a veneer of religious and moral platitudes, labels, and easy recipes. The world offers you love without purity and without integrity. Christ offers love with integrity, a capacity to love that fulfills to the uttermost.

What do you really want out of life? What counts most with you? Christ gives us the capacity to love and to receive love; love without jealousy, without hostility, envy, or selfishness; a love that preserves our serenity of mind and spirit.

The righteous love of God is the only thing under heaven that takes all the inner inconsistencies, the conflicting elements in life, the twisted emotions, and heals and binds them together to make you a loving person.

You do not need to be told how easily a young person can lose his capacity to love truly. The very conditions that prevail in the world have dragged love down to the level of the physical, causing people to live fragmentary lives. Christ makes you whole. He will not let you love with less than the best that is in you. He would have you know His own love, that "ye might be filled with all the fulness of God" (Eph. 3:19).
